Who is Anna Rappaport?

Anna M. Rappaport, F.S.A., M.A.A.A. is a nationally and internationally recognized expert on the impact of change on retirement systems and workforce issues. Career highlights include:

• Past-President of the Society of Actuaries and chairs its Committee on Post-Retirement Needs and Risks.

• Completed 60 years as an FSA in 2023, and has an MBA from the University of Chicago.

• She is also a phased retiree and formed her own consulting firm after retiring from Mercer at the end of 2004.

Anna is a tireless advocate for women’s retirement issues, better opportunities for older Americans, and better understanding of retirement risk and late in life issues.

She is an internationally recognized expert on aging, retirement and work issues. Some of her areas of recent focus include:

• Public knowledge and attitudes about retirement

• Women’s retirement security and special issues of people aging alone

• Caregiving and support needed for older individuals, and the role of family in retirement

• The impact of disability on retirement security

• Phased retirement, the need for later retirement ages and for better work options for older workers. She is personally a phased retiree at this time.

• 2021 Society of Actuaries Lifetime Volunteer Award

• Lilywhite Award from the Employee Benefit Research Institute (EBRI) in 2019

• 2017 PSCA Lifetime Achievement Award

• Workers in Employee Benefits named her Employee Benefits Professional of the Decade in connection with their 10th anniversary.

• In October 2005, WISER awarded her a Heros Award for her contributions to furthering women’s retirement security

• Business Insurance selected her as one of the top 100 women in Benefits and Insurance in October 2000.

• In March 2003, Anna received the Illinois State Treasurer’s Woman to Woman Award as a Trailblazer in Public Policy.

• Anna was the recipient of the YWCA’s Outstanding Achievement in Business Award in October 2003.

• She received The Society of Actuaries John E. O’Connor Distinguished Service Award for 2003.
